During the opening ceremony of the 7th Annual Carrington Charitable Foundation Golf Classic on October 9 at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast, Calif., CCF dropped golf balls from a helicopter to benefit Carrington House and CCF's Veteran Support Program.
Every golf ball purchased had a number, and the owner of the first numbered ball that landed in the hole was Fran Schaut, Director, Loan Servicing, in Westfield, IN. As winner of the Grand Prize, Fran had his pick of two prizes: a full set of custom-fitted golf clubs or $2,500!
Instead of accepting either prize, Fran generously chose to donate his winnings back to CCF, where the funds will be instrumental in furthering CCF's mission to provide Veterans of post-9/11 conflicts with Mobility, Stability, Purpose and Prosperity.
Fran served his country as a Specialist in the U.S. Army as part of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), based in Fort Drum, NY. Fran says he didn't hesitate when it was time to decide what to do with his winnings. “I respect everything that the men and women in the armed forces do in service to our country," he says. “It was the right thing to do."
Fran has been a Carrington Associate for the past two years, and says the work Carrington does in service to Veterans was one of the primary reasons he wanted to work here. He has family and extended family in various branches of the armed forces, and donated his prize to CCF on behalf of his family, including his wife, Kelley, and their nine-year-old daughter Madison.
Fran's wasn't the only golf ball that made it into the cup. Also making it in were balls sponsored by Rob Petruska, VP, Retail Lending, in Westfield; Heather Schannault, Senior Underwriter, Wholesale, in Anaheim; and Danielle Laney, SVP, Carrington Home Solutions, in Anaheim. Because four balls found their way into the cup, everyone who made it in won a paid vacation day - a great way to thank these Associates for supporting CCF and our Veterans.
